Honahlee, PC's Mission
The preservation of valuable equine genetic
Honahlee PC, founded in 1992, was perhaps the first
private practice in the US dedicated solely to equine reproduction. Designed
and built in Sherwood, Oregon by its owner, veterinarian and theriogenologist,
Dr Lisa Metcalf, Honahlee rapidly expanded from a small equine breeding
operation into a premier state-of the-art facility that manages the breeding of
many of the top competition horses, from multiple disciplines, in the world.
The veterinary services offered at Honahlee include
not only the care and expertise for breeding horses, but the cryopreservation
and storage of equine semen, oocytes and embryos as well. Additionally, its
staff is involved in continuing education for both veterinarians and lay
persons. Dr Metcalf teaches 3rd and 4th year veterinary students attending
Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine; and senior veterinary
students from other veterinary schools throughout the world often elect to
spend an externship/ preceptorship at Honahlee as well.
Honahlee also breeds its own horses for competition
and sale. Originally, only thoroughbred race horses were bred. However, over
the past 10 years, blood lines from European Sporthorses have gradually
dominated the breeding program, even to ownership and standing of a remarkable
Holsteiner stallion, Challenge.
Lastly, due to popular demand, the Honahlee logo on
